Director of Finance

Location: Remote (NYC or Denver)

You’ll be joining a fast growing startup as an early leader on the executive team and working directly with the founders driving critical business decisions. Pepper is looking for a well-rounded Director of Finance who will be responsible for owning the company’s financial operations model and providing strategic advice to the founders. You will play an integral role in strategizing about Pepper’s growth and profitability plans. 

The ideal candidate would have experience managing FP&A for a fast DTC growing company, preferably in the e-commerce, retail, or apparel space. In addition, you will have proven the ability to collaborate cross functionally and connect the dots across departments, support overall growth of the company with KPI tracking, and communicate actionable insights to executive teams. 

  • Own the company’s operating model and drive the reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Create financial models to project the business’s growth, gross margin improvements (product, fulfillment, shipping) margins, expansion plans, and overhead  
  • Manage our external financial accounting team and oversee monthly and yearly financial statements (P&L, Cashflow, Balance Sheet) 
  • Collaborate with the inventory planning team to ensure optimization of order levels that maximize potential revenue without hampering cash flow
  • Manage all aspects of cash flow by monitoring the in and out flows of capital, including invoices, expense tracking
  • Navigate and advise on complex sales tax decisions, especially as it relates to e-commerce businesses 
  • Track, report, and analyze of our core KPIs across the company (CAC, AOV, Reorder rate, Cashflow, etc) 
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver on ad hoc requests and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including investors
  • Identify opportunities to improve including marketing and operational KPIs and work cross-functionally with each department to improve performance
  • Support the leadership team with capital raising, cap table management, and investor presentations 
  • Lead special projects and new initiatives such as evaluating new markets and categories
  • Manage payroll, headcount planning, and team-related administrative tasks

The perfect candidate

  • 7+ years of experience in FP&A, investment banking, venture capital or private equity
  • At least 3 years of experience at a fast growing e-commerce, retail, apparel or physical consumer products company
  • Deep understanding of financial modeling, valuation methods, and key metrics used in the DTC ecommerce; strong working knowledge of accounting principles 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to turn data and numbers into actionable insightsHas experience with capital raising and M&A process
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes
  • Proven track record of using data to drive impactful decisions and results
  • Intellectual curiosity and thrives in ambiguity 
  • Experience with executing strategic transactions, including running diligence

Growth Marketing Manager

Location: Remote (NYC or Denver preferred)

Pepper is  looking for an analytically-driven Growth Marketing Manager to join the Growth Marketing team and lead efficient new customer acquisition growth on Facebook and/or Google. You’ll be reporting to the Director of Growth Marketing and be responsible for managing and optimizing six figures in monthly digital ad spend. You see the missed opportunities that others in the market overlook, and use it to develop creative tactics.  The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing acquisition ad channels at scale, specifically Facebook and/or Google, applies a quantitative approach to performance marketing, and thrives in a fast-moving scrappy organization. 

  • Manage performance of digital ad spend on Facebook, Google (with opportunity to add more channels) with an emphasis on profitable conversions 
  • Own end-to-end execution of campaigns, including implementation, optimization, reporting, and analysis
  • Oversee rigorous creative testing and optimization experiments to maximize media spend and continue meeting KPIs as we scale
  • Proactively identify areas of opportunities to improve ad performance and a plan for achieving even better results
  • Collaborate cross-functionally  with the Creative and Analytics team to share insights, test performance, and drive consistent creation of new creatives 
  • Identify and evaluate emerging platforms and channels to lead new tests and growth initiatives
  • Troubleshoot and identify technical issues to ensure all pixel and tracking requirements are setup correctly

  • At least 2-3 years of paid acquisition experience at a fast growing, DTC ecommerce company or agency
  • Proven track record managing Facebook and/or Google ad spend
  • Expert on the latest ad format trends, especially as it comes to a mobile-first strategy  
  • You love problem-solving, coming up with creative solutions, and wearing “many hats” as they say (or “many bras” as we say)
  • An expert with Excel and website data, and comfortable with manipulating numbers to distill and communicate complex data in a clear way that can drive business decisions
  • Experience with Shopify, Google Analytics, Google Optimize, landing page platforms Sharp attention to detail with exceptional project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

In this role, you’ll be a friend and bra expert who will share fit advice, resolve order issues, and offer a compliment or two. You’ll have a direct impact on building the brand’s relationship with the customer, and delivering the easy and joyful online shopping experience that Pepper aims to offer.

  • Become an expert on everything Pepper from fit to product; be the customer-facing champion of the brand.
  • Create instant rapport with our customers to deliver above and beyond customer service
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment to troubleshoot, triage, and answer customers’ questions on product, brand, and logistics.
